All the things I loved about 13 Little Blue Envelopes are back and better than ever. Maureen Johnson delivers again in the sequel—and takes the obstacles for Ginny to a whole new level.
This time, Ginny receives a strange email from a stranger named Oliver who found her letters from her aunt. The email quotes some of the letter to her and tells her to come to London if she wants to get them back. Ginny, desperate for the last one and avoiding the decision of college, goes to meet Oliver. He makes a deal with Ginny: he’ll give her the last letter if she goes with him to collect her aunt’s painting, which is in parts across Europe, and she will split the profit with him. Out of options, Ginny goes—and Keith (and a girl named Ellis) comes with them.
I think I liked this book more than the first. I genuinely loved that Ginny had to go back because she had so much more to learn. When the last one ended, I wasn’t sure what would happen in this one for a whole book, but man, I’m glad it happened. I loved the tension between Oliver and the other three. I love the growth the character go through, the adventure, the drama and the comedy. I love when books make me laugh. And I love that I really, really liked all the characters. (I also apparently love British boys named Oliver.)
There are a lot more descriptions of these places we get to travel. And since there are only three-ish places for Ginny to go, we get to spend more time in all of them. I think that is what makes this series unique—that we get to go to so many awesome places.
I really, really, really enjoyed this book. I read through it in no time and built a stronger connection to Ginny and her aunt. These books really leave you with the feeling that things can happen—impossible things. Crazy-big, life-changing things—and they have this power to take you places you never dreamed. All you have to do is be open to them and seek them out. And then be ready to go where they are leading.

ReplyDeletePS - have you heard of the book The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight? It's coming out in 2012, and I squee-ed when I found out it has a British guy named Oliver in it!
HAVE I EVER!!! He's 100x better than this Oliver. Seriously. I adore that book. Ah, Oliver.
